6. YOUR RIGHT TO FRAUD ALERTS AND SECURITY FREEZES
──────────────────────────────
Parents and guardians may obtain information from the Federal Trade Commission and the consumer reporting agencies listed above about placing fraud alerts and security freezes on accounts. A fraud alert notifies creditors to take extra steps to verify identity before opening new accounts. A security freeze restricts access to a credit file, making it harder for identity thieves to open accounts in a child's name.

RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONS
──────────────────────────────
Although no passwords or financial information are believed to have been compromised, the District encourages all families to take the following steps:
• Be alert to phishing emails or messages that reference your child's courses, teachers, or school activities, as threat actors may use information from this breach to make fraudulent communications appear legitimate.
• Do not click links in unexpected emails claiming to be from Canvas, Instructure, or Williamsfield CUSD #210. Contact the District directly to verify any suspicious communication.
• If your child uses the same password for Canvas as for other accounts, consider updating those passwords as a precaution.
Williamsfield CUSD #210 takes the privacy and security of student information seriously. We will continue to monitor updates from Instructure and will communicate any material developments to our community.
For questions, please contact the District at 309-639-2216.
