Today, Ms. Bowker's AP Literature students embarked on a field trip that brought poetry off the page and into the world around them.
The day began at The Beanhive, where students sipped coffee and wrote poetry while rain tapped against the windows. As the skies cleared, the class headed to Lake Storey for a nature walk that tied directly into their recent work on nature-inspired poetry. Students explored the trails, drew inspiration from their surroundings, and even went geocaching. The final stop was a visit to the Carl Sandburg Birthplace and Museum, where students learned about the life, legacy, and lyrical spirit of one of Illinois' most iconic poets. Seeing where Sandburg began his journey gave students new insight into the power of place, experience, and voice in poetry.
It was a day full of discovery & creativity!
