Research and Inquiry Skills
Research Question
-With a group, I can formulate 5 questions about a single topic.
- I can participate in creating a graphic organizer (teacher resources) about a topic.
-I can plan a simple research project (other topics).
-I can identify what a search term is and choose search terms.

Location
-I can locate the library’s fiction and nonfiction sections.
-I can locate a fiction book on the shelves.
-I can locate the parts of a title page including:  title, author, illustrator, publisher, copyright date, place of publication.
-I can locate the table of contents in a book.

Communication
-I can create an accurately labeled graph to record my findings.
-I can create a labeled diagram that is clear and recognizable on a topic.

Evaluation
-I can interpret my graph and diagram.
-I can evaluate the success of my work.
-I can identify the way elements of book illustrations enhance the story.

Lifelong Reading and Literature
-I can choose a book that is right for me.
-I check out books on a regular basis.
-I can identify a Caldecott winning book.
-I can tell why a book is selected for the Caldecott Award.
-I can identify illustrations that enhance the story.
-I can identify story elements including characters, setting and sequence of events.
